Brazilian psychedlic/tropicalia masters Os Mutantes announced the release of their first record in over 35 years. Haih will be released on ANTI Records home of such artists as Antibalas, Nick Cave, Blackalicious, Daniel Lanois, Mavis Staples, N.A.S.A. and Tom Waits, on September 8th. Os Mutantes were formed in 1966 in São Paulo, Brazil by two brothers Arnaldo and Sergio Dias Baptista with vocal duties by Rita Lee. The band were heavily influenced at the time by The Bealtes, Jimi Hendrix, and Sly & The Family Stone, and in turn Os Mutantes have influenced the likes of Kurt Cobain, Kevin Barnes (Of Montreal), Beck, The Talking Heads as well as many other acts. This news comes with much anticipation as the group reunited in 2006 (without Rita Lee) and played a string of shows with Flaming Lips, Tom Zé, and Devandra Barnhart. Late last year, Os Mutantes released a new track, “Mutantes Depois” as a digital download. The song featured vocals by Bia Mendes and Fabio Recco. It is unknown yet whether Rita Lee will return as lead vocalist.
